Southern's Seniors Capture State Championship!

Southern's senior baseball all-star team won the Michigan State Championship on Monday night with an exciting 13-3 win over a very good Taylor Northwest Little League team. Taylor defeated Southern 9-4 earlier in the day, forcing the final game last night. Luke Elzinga pitched a complete game in the final allowing three runs on only five hits in front of possibly the largest crowd ever to watch a game on Henwood field.

Also at Southern last night, Southern's east 9/10 all-star team defeated Holland and then moved over to the Henwood field to cheer on the Seniors. The atmosphere was electric as Taylor cut in to a 5-0 lead to make it 5-3 in the top of the 4th. Southern responded with a run in the bottom of the 4th to make it 6-3 and stall Taylor’s momentum. In the bottom of the 6th Southern finished it off with 6 runs for the 13-3 mercy rule win.

Congratulations to the team, coaches, parents and supporters. Good luck to the Senior Baseball team as they head to Peru, Illinois, for the Central States Senior League Baseball Tournament. That action starts Saturday with a two day seeding pool play. Southern plays Kentucky on Saturday at 2:30 and Ohio on Sunday at 2:00 central time. All teams are then seeded and advance to a 9 team single elimination bracket starting Sunday evening for the 8 and 9 seeds and Monday for the 1 thru 7 seeds. We will keep you posted here with the results. We will also let you know if you can follow online.

Congratulations 2017 Senior Baseball State Champions Southern Little League!!
