No Softball Tryouts

We've gotten some calls asking whether or not the tryout session on Saturday, March 23, includes softball players. It does not. And to be clear, only certain baseball players need to be at the tryout. Please read the details here to see if your child needs to be present at this Saturday's tryout session.

Calling All NEW Umpires!

If you are passionate about the game of baseball and turn the age of 13 by May 1, 2013, then you are invited to a meeting at East Grand Rapids High School's gym on Saturday, March 23, at approximately 2:30 pm -- and immediately following the juniors' tryout. This meeting will last about a half-hour or so and will give you the opportunity to learn more about how to become a new umpire at Southern Little League for the upcoming season. Jim Weiss, Southern's umpire director, will host this meeting and address several topics including training dates, sign-up dates, pay scale, etc. This is an excellent opportunity for you to earn some money this spring, take on the responsibility of running a baseball game, interact with players and coaches, and enhance your future college application or job resume by becoming an umpire.
